Corporate history

February 1964 Established as Ohtama Metal Industry Co., Ltd. with capital of 1 million yen at 1780 Oshitate, Inagi-shi, Tokyo.
Commenced sheet metal processing, pressing and hydrogen annealing of Permalloy (iron-nickel alloy) as a specialist in the manufacture of magnetic shield cases.
August 1969 Computerized financial management and technical calculations.
December 1970 Constructed head office and plant at the present location.
March 1976 Received the Tokyo Metropolitan Governor’s Award as a rationalized plant.
November 1976 Plant was introduced three times in an NHK program, “Management of Tomorrow” as a computer rationalized plant.
March 1977 Received commendation from the Hachioji Tax Office Superintendent for outstanding compliance in reporting corporate tax. (1st time)
March 1978 Received commendation from the Director-General of the Small and Medium Enterprise Agency as a rationalized plant.
April 1980 Introduced a range of automated NC equipment in line with completion of expansions to the plant
Installed one of Japan’s largest hydrogen annealing furnaces, allowing heat treatment of large Permalloy products.
April 1981 Designated a model rationalized plant by the Director-General of the Small and Medium Enterprise Agency. (1st time)
May 1985 Manufactured and delivered large magnetic shield case for neutralized cells from ion sources in the JT-60 nuclear fusion experiment furnace.
November 1985 Delivered our first magnetic shield case for an electron microscope.
February 1987 Introduced electromagnetic shield manufacturing equipment and inspection/measurement equipment for Electromagnetic Interference (EMI) applications. (Commenced zinc spraying)
April 1987 Accredited with the MIL standard (MIL-W-6858D spot welding) by the Ministry of Defense Japan.
July 1988 Completed expansions to the plant and introduced range of precision, automated presses to improve plant productivity.
August 1988 Changed name to Ohtama Co., Ltd. on August 01 (Amended May 27, Registered June 20)
November 1989 Completed construction of Open Site No.1 for the measurement of electromagnetic waves and established EMC Ohtama Co., Ltd.
Launched EMI (Electromagnetic wave measurement) business. (Yamanashi Prefecture site: 10,000m2)

May 1990 Applied for the electromagnetic wave measurement facility, Open Site to be registered with the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). Application was filed and registered. (Yamanashi Prefecture)
November 1992 Introduced on TV Asahi program, “Tokyo NOW” as a small/medium sized rationalized plant.
March 1993 Designated a small/medium sized rationalized plant for promoting management rationalization by Director-General of the Small and Medium Enterprise Agency.
May 1993 Electromagnetic wave measurement and solutions from electromagnetic wave measurement facility, Open Site introduced on NHK program, “Close up Gendai”.
Applied for the electromagnetic wave measurement facility, Open Site to be registered with the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) in compliance with ANSIC63.4 in line with revisions to FCC standards. Application was filed and registered. (Yamanashi Prefecture)
January 1994 Applied for the electromagnetic wave measurement facility, Open Site to be registered with the Voluntary Control Council for Interference by Information Technology Equipment (VCCI) as an electromagnetic wave measurement facility in line with revisions to VCCI standards. April 1995 Re-designated a model rationalized plant by the Director-General of the Small and Medium Enterprise Agency. (Every two years/8th time)
May 1995 Electromagnetic wave measurement facility, Open Site approved as a certified testing facility by TUV Product Service, Germany. (Yamanashi Prefecture)
September 1995 Participated in national (Ministry of Transport) project “Mega-float Technology Research Association”.
Commenced “magnetic measurement from floating structure”.
November 1996 Developed and marketed magnetic field canceller.
Established TPS Ohtama Co., Ltd. a joint venture laboratory with TUV Product Service Japan, a German-owned company.
Commenced EMS (immunity measurement) business. (Yamanashi Prefecture)
November 1997 Completed construction of new clean plant for the assembly of magnetic shield rooms and commenced taking orders for and the production of shield rooms.

January 1998 Completed construction and commenced relocation to new shield room assembly plant.

December 2001 Implemented measures to improve accuracy and scope of magnetic field measurement equipment and to allow 3-axis measurements and introduced system to process measured data.
February 2002 Delivered one of the world’s largest extra-large, high performance shield rooms to an agency affiliated with the MLIT.
June 2002 Received commendation from the Hino Tax Office Superintendent for outstanding compliance in reporting corporate tax. (Awarded every 5 years by Hino Tax Office/6th time)
November 2003 Obtained ISO 9001: 2000 certification.
February 2006 Obtained construction license (Sheet metal processing etc.).
January 2007 Changed name from TUV Ohtama Co., Ltd. to TUV SUD Ohtama Co., Ltd.
August 2007 Registered for KES Step 2 Standard.
July 2009 Received product development grant for small and medium-sized enterprises from METI and commenced development of new magnetic shield room.
2010 Selected as recipient for product development grant for small and medium-sized enterprises from METI.
October 2013 Terminated joint venture with TUV SUD Japan. TUV SUD Ohtama became a wholly owned subsidiary of Ohtama Co., Ltd. and the company name changed to e-Ohtama Co., Ltd.
February 2014 Held 50-year anniversary ceremony.
Published commemorative magazine.
March 2015 Completed construction of Hachioji Minamino Factory.
